Ken Caryl

Denver Real EstateThe Johns Manville Corporation purchased the Ken-Caryl Ranch in 1971 to locate its World Headquaters and Research and Development Center here with the intent of creating a master-planned community.  Following a year and a half of planning and public review, the Official Development Plan (ODP) for the former cattle ranch was approved by Jefferson County in 1972.  To maximize the natural wilderness beauty of the property, it was determined that only one-third of Ken-Caryl Ranch would be developed.

Today, the 9,197 acre community, 18 miles southwest of Denver, is a mix of residential neighborhoods, commercial areas, and a full complement of recreation that features over 6,000 acres of public and Ken-Caryl Ranch Master Association private open space.  At full development, Ken-Caryl Ranch anticipates approximately 16,000 residents in 5,200 homes.  About 5 million square feet of retail, office, and light industrial space are planned as well.

Over twenty miles of hiking, mountain biking and equestrian trails have been developed in Ken Caryl Ranch. Many varieties of wildlife inhabit Ken Caryl Ranch open space and are often sighted.  Deer herds use the Dakota Hogback as a winter range and move back into the mountain areas during the summer.  Turkeys, coyotes, grouse, elk and occasionally mountain lions and black bears may also be seen.  Throughout the season, adults, families, children and seniors utilize the paths for leisure, relaxation and fitness.
